Emergency & Exit Lighting
Exit and Emergency Lighting
Exit and emergency lighting are essential safety features designed to illuminate escape routes during power failures. These lights are equipped with batteries that automatically charge when connected to the mains power supply. In the event of a power outage, they provide at least 90 minutes of continuous illumination.
There are two primary types of exit and emergency lighting:
- Exit Signs: These signs are permanently illuminated to clearly indicate the escape routes within a building. They must guide people to the nearest final exit or evacuation point.
- Emergency Lights: Installed at regular intervals throughout the building, these lights illuminate the escape paths to ensure safe egress.
The National Construction Code (NCC) in Australia and New Zealand sets specific requirements for the type, placement, and performance of exit and emergency lighting. All such lights must comply with the Australian Standard AS2293.
